The Game Change Project

Poppy’s journey with TGCP

Exceptional Young People

Poppy was referred to the project by her Youth Support Worker in February 2022. During lockdown, Poppy had lost touch with her friends and became increasingly isolated. She could not face going to school and often spent days in her room.

Poppy’s mum persuaded her to try TGCP and although she found it difficult at first she enjoyed riding the horses and started to make new friends.

When we asked Poppy what had helped her most, she said that it was a combination of feeling supported and listened to, gaining confidence to socialize again and starting to feel happier which distracted her from the anxiety. Riding horses at the project helped her venture outside her comfort zone and gradually Poppy started leaving the house more, going shopping with friends and looking forward to activities.

Poppy now supports other young people as a peer mentor and attends the project 2 days a week. She says she is sleeping better and feels that her anxiety is virtually non existent!

Poppy is now planning her career and looking forward to starting college in September.
